General Nursing and Midwifery (G.N.M.)

Course Details

Name and Duration of the course

It is a 3 years General Nursing and Midwifery Course. The prospectus is available at the office of Mata Gujri Institute of Nursing Village Mehmadpur, P.O. Adampur, Jalandhar. The curriculum for general nursing and midwifery includes the clinical/ field/ internship experience according to the syllabi of Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and Punjab Nurses Registration Council, Chandigarh.

Preliminary Training Period

The preliminary training period is of 12 weeks after which the students will be given a test. Every student is required to obtain atleast 50% marks. The continuity of training will depend upon the result of the test.

Eligibility Criteria for GNM first year Admission

Minimum and maximum age for the admission will be 17 and 35 years respectively. For ANM / LHV, there is no age bar.

Application Requirements

The applicants are required to obtain the prospectus with admission form, from the institute or by post on payment of Rs 600/- only. The admission form duly filled up must be submitted with all relevant documents within the time limit.

Submission of Application

Complete application form in every respect.

Three passport size attested photographs and seven unattested photographs.

Photostat copy of matriculation certificate duly attested. (four copies).

Photo copy of 10 + 2 examination certificate along with detailed marks certificate duly attested. (four copies).

Photo copy of residential certificate duly attested. (One copy).

Two self addressed envelops duly stamped.

Certificate of S.C. / S.T. (where applicable) by competent authority.

Declaration attested by notary on a stamp paper of Rs 3/- or more, whichever is available.

Legal document in case of widow or divorcee or deserted.

PNRC, INC and institute stipulated criteria and conditions for admission will be applicable.

Procedure of Selection to GNM

Test for selection will be conducted on the subjects mentioned in the box. The medium of test will be English. Questions asked in the test will be from 10+2 standard. After the test there will be an oral interview and candidates will be asked simple questions e.g. why they wish to join nursing profession, what role a nurse plays in society, in hospitals, community, nation, internationally etc.

Selection of Students

The candidate will be called for an interview. They are required to bring all the original certificates and attested copies at the time of admission. The selection will be done on merit. The decision of the selection committee will be final and binding. The management of the institute reserves the right to select or reject any candidate without stating its reason. No claim of any type will be entertained by the institute.

Successful candidates will be informed separately about the selection and further course of action and admission. A waiting list of candidates will also be maintained. On the availability of a seat the candidates on waiting list will be informed. The final list of selected nursing candidates will be approved by our worthy Chairman S. Satnam Singh Kooner and Managing Director S. Gurpreet Singh Kooner.

Fees Structure (The Fees is According to the Govt. Norms)

The Fees is as per Govt. Norms. The fee structure may change from time to time as described by the Govt. Students are requested to pay the fees every 6 months i.e., in September and February. Mess amount is as per actual cost per month but can be revised depending on the cost of essential commodities and other expenses.

Uniform

The uniform will be provided by the institution. The cost of the uniform will be paid by the students. The cost will be intimated later.

Books

The books and other stationery will be available in the book shop on the college premises.

T.N.A.I. and S.N.A. Membership

Every student will have to pay fee of T.N.A.I. on completion of the course for its life membership through the institute. The fee for the membership of S.N.A. is to be paid annually.

Security

The security (if any) can be withdrawn within two months from the date of the declaration of the result.

Fees, dues and other charges are subject to change by the institute from time to time without giving any notice.

P.N.R.C. fee, examination fee, practical books, other general and personal expenses are the responsibility of the students.

Specialised Clinical Training fees will be extra per year.

Expenses on books and uniform will be borne by the student.

Guide Lines for the Payment of Fee and Other Charges

Payment of fees is to be made in cash/ bank draft payable to Punjab National Bank.

Text books, uniform, medical checkup would be paid separately and is not included in the fee structure.

If there are further changes regarding the fee structure in accordance with the new syllabus, those would be informed later.

Fee dues and other charges, if not paid by the specified date, will be fined, as per rules.

A student failing in any council exam in two or more subjects and stays back in the institute to continue studies of the year which the student is repeating, shall be charged for the additional period spent in the institute and hostel as per rule.

If any candidate discontinues course after one month the student has to pay the full fee amount.

Besides punishment a fine of Rs 100/- per day will be charged, if a student does not join her study in time.

If any student leaves the course mid-term due to one or the other reason, she will have to pay all the dues of the completion of the duration of the whole course. Fees and other charges once paid are not refundable under any circumstances whatsoever.

House Examination

Two semester examinations are compulsory in a year. Scoring atleast 50% marks in each semester exam, will entitle the student to appear in the final examination. Internal assessment of the candidate will depend on her performance in the hospital / semester exam / field work / internship and written assignments, records, reports etc. The assessment of the teacher about the work of a candidate during training period, will also be counted.

Final Examination

The internal assessment of a student will depend upon her performance in the theory and practical examination held in the institute from time to time. General behaviour of a student will also be taken into consideration at the end of each year. The final examination will be held according to instruction of the Council / Board / University at the centre allocated to the institute in the month of September every year. The compartment cases can reappear in the month of March next year.

Admission to Final Examination

A candidate is eligible to the final exams if she fulfills the following requirements.

She attends not less than 75% classes (lectures / practical and field work).

Completes the practical training.

Regular, disciplined and well behaved student certificated by the Principal.

Certificate will be issued on completion of training.

Students should get signature on No Dues slip from all authorities mentioned on it and should submit it in the office.

Grades

The grades of the candidates will be determined on the basis of marks scored in examination.

Distinction : 80% and above First Class Standing : 70% to 79%
Second Class Standing : 60% to 69%
Third Class Standing : 50% to 59%
For each paper, the marks required for passing shall be 50% in the aggregate (internal and external)
